It feels really weird trying to write a bio on a friend, because all I want to say is DAN WHITEHOUSE is brilliant! I decided against a bio, but wanted to give you some background on Dan and tell you why I asked him to be a part of The VIP Project. By the way, he's brilliant.
Dan is a singer-songwriter based in Birmingham, but was born in one of the most exotic places on Earth, Wolverhampton. I met Dan back in 2012 when I went to an Oxjam Songwriting Session. We wrote a song together, I think it was called 'The Sound of Something'. It's a "lost song" as I can't find it anywhere. After that session, Dan invited me to a songwriting course that he runs and we started to develop a friendship.
Dan has been releasing his own music independently since the early 2000s, and recently was signed to Reveal Records. He has done guitar session work for many signed acts, played Reading, and has recently been on tour with Eddi Reader (Fairground Attraction. They sang Perfect), and has just finished a tour with Boo Hewerdine. He's a very busy man.
Dan regularly works within the community with people with a variety of disabilities, doing music workshops and performing. He is considerate, passionate and enthusiastic, which made him a perfect choice for The VIP Project.
You can hear his latest single 'That's Where I Belong' here:
I also want to tell you about a song Dan co-wrote with Boo Hewerdine called 'Close Up' (it's at the top of this blog post), which details the story of a VI refugee who loves taking photographs. I saw Dan perform this song earlier this year and I had to fight back the tears, such a beautifully written song, please check it out.
On Saturday 10th December 2016 Dan will be playing a headline show at St Paul's Church, Birmingham. You can get your tickets here:
Dan has been instrumental in my development as a songwriter & performer. He is open, honest and constantly challenges me, amongst many others to go that one step further, whether it be musically or lyrically. He has an amazing ear for music across a wide spectrum of genres. I can't wait for the participants to meet Dan & for the audience that attends our final showcase on 10th May 2017 to watch and hear him perform.
You can be a participant of The VIP Project and work with Dan. All you have to do is apply via our website from 16th December 2016. We will select 8 participants to attend the full course. In order to be a participant, you must be 18-35 & have a visual impairment.
And now here's a word from the man himself:
"I'm Dan Whitehouse, I'm a singer-songwriter and I'll be delivering one of The VIP Project's workshops. I also be performing at the project's showcase on 10th May 2017, I'm really looking forward to it, looking forward to meeting you."
Check back tomorrow to find out who our second artist is!
Thanks for reading and listening!
