Fiona is one of my favourite artists & songwriters. Imagine my delight when Fiona said yes to being a part of The VIP Project. Unbelievable!
A few years ago I came across an article about successful
British songwriters. I recognised all the names, apart from Fiona, but I knew the song she had written. It was 'Little Things' by One Direction (it was co-written with Ed Sheeran). It also mentioned that Fiona's debut album was released in early 2014, so I guess the article was a couple of years ago. Anyway, I immediately had to check her out.
I swiped my way over to iTunes to preview Fiona's album and really loved what I was hearing, particularly a song called 'Love in a Cold Climate'. That song literally took overmy life for months. It became the theme tune to everything I was doing. I even had dreams where I would hear it playing, seriously! Anyway, I was hooked on Fiona's sweet melodies and distinct vocals. 'Love in a Cold Climate' is only available at the iTunes Store, here's the link:
There was an event on in London called 'Songs in the Round' and Fiona was one of the guests. At this point, I had the project in mind, but still wasn't clear on exactly what it was. I was trying to be cool and not fangirl. I chatted with Fiona & offered to buy her a drink. I went to the bar and headed back over to where she was, as I handed Fiona her drink, I dropped my glass on the floor and it shattered, just like my dreams of seeming cool. I think I had definitely made an impression. Every cloud.
I've met Fiona few times since then and no glass smashing has happened.
Fiona started playing music from a young age and is a multi-instrumentalist. She plays guitar, bass, keys, Ukulele, and the violin. I'm pretty sure I have missed some out, but yeah, Fiona plays all the instruments. Fiona has supported Bill Bailey and Ed Sheeran. Fiona also won a BMI (Broadcast Music Inc) Award for 'Little Things' AND Fiona will be delivering a workshop for The VIP Project and performing at our show on 10th May 2017 at mac Birmingham. What a treat!
Check out 'Slo Mo Tiger Glo' The song was snatched up by HSBC for an advertising campaign in 2015
Fiona's workshop is going to be a real treat. I did some research for this post, a bit of fact checking and 'The Line of Best Fit' described Fiona's album as "Mesmerisingly beautiful." That pretty much sums it up.
Thanks for reading and listening.
